God’s Holy Name
November 6th, 2023
Ezekiel 36:16-23
Have you ever said, “my house, my rules”? That’s how Israel felt. They’d decided that the land the Lord had given them was theirs and so they could do whatever they pleased. The reality was, however, that it was the Lord’s land and He wouldn’t tolerate His people to profane His name.
Thankfully, God’s holiness doesn’t depend on us. It neither rises nor falls on our actions, attitudes, or purity. It doesn’t depend on us however God still chooses to show His holiness through us. He will not stand idle when we profane it.
We are surrounded by good gifts and God’s gracious provision. Take a moment to consider some of those things. You might even write some down. Now think about how you either reflect or profane God’s holiness with and within those things. What do you watch on television and read on the computer? What are you listening to in the car or as you ride the bus? What language do you use on your mobile phone? What about the clothes you wear and the way you carry yourself? This isn’t about legalism; it’s about the call to be holy.
