Ezekiel 1:1-14
The heavens opened and visions flew to Ezekiel. Suddenly he finds himself trying to describe the indescribable and like a terrifying dream which removes all hope of returning to sleep, words would prove inadequate in the recounting. Ezekiel is unexpectedly called to leave the priesthood and to embrace the calling of a prophet.
It is easy to dismiss from our lives the possibility of such an interaction with the Lord, and yet He abides with us. Through His presence, the ordinary becomes alive with possibility. God illuminates the ordinary and infuses it with holy meaning. The bird song in the strengthening dawn light, the sun illuminated clouds at sunset, the frightening intensity of an unexpected thunderstorm, the warmth of the small hand resting confidently in ours, all are made sacred by His presence.
It is not the placement of the day, but the placement of the transcendent which raises the ordinary to the extraordinary.
