Psalm 121:1-8
When I was younger, my aunt had a short wall made of flat sandstone around her raised lawn. I had vision problems and frequently stubbed my toes on the hard stones. I became afraid of that short retaining wall. Some senior adults develop a fear of tripping and falling in later life. They can wear a device that allows them to communicate to an operator if they have fallen. We see many grandparents using walkers or canes. We might fear a physical fall, but this passage gives us confidence that God watches out for us. He never sleeps.
Preschool teachers seek to preempt accidents for their students. They will redirect students to keep them from falling and hurting themselves. God gives us His Holy Spirit to redirect us and teach us which way to go so that we will not fall spiritually. The Holy Spirit gives us a clearer vision. We are not left spiritually blind. When we seek the Lord’s guidance, we do not have to wake God first. God is working. He who pulled Peter out of the sea (Matthew 14:31) will pick us up off the ground!
