Jesus Brings Light

July 22nd, 2023

Psalm 119:49-56

“In the night, Lord, I remember your name, that I may keep your law” (Psalm 119:55). There are times in our lives that seem more night-like. In the northern parts of our planet, some nights last longer than others. The Arctic Circle receives no sunlight for up to 67 days. That is one long night.

Darkness reminds us of the worse things in life. It affects our vision. It makes it hard to see, and dark days can begin to obscure our view of God and the positives in our lives.

A greater sense of loneliness is another aspect of darkness. During the global pandemic, loneliness intensified. One plague throughout Europe became known as the “Black Death.” The middle ages were called the “Dark Ages.” For Christians, our dark ages or dark nights of the soul are times when God is seems absent.

Jesus: His name is a strength and comfort in our darkest night! Declare it when the light seems dim and the enemy infringes on God’s territory in your life. Let it be your comfort in suffering.
