Listening to the Spirit

Acts 16:6-10

Do you know what the voice of the Holy Spirit sounds like? For me, I refer to it as having “God’s thumb in my back.” It’s that feeling when you’re standing in line at the store, and instead of giving the cashier grief because of the long lines, you feel prompted to thank them for their help and ask how their day is going. It’s being awakened in the middle of the night with someone on your mind and you feel prompted to pray.

I am totally convinced that we can “tune” ourselves to better hear the voice of the Spirit. Saying “yes” to God’s prompting makes the next “yes” easier. We become more attuned to what God’s speaking sounds like for us, to the point where we simply know God’s voice, prompting us with His thumb in our back, to live-out some aspect of God’s kingdom.

That is what is happening in Acts 16. He knows what the Spirit of Jesus sounds like, whether it’s saying “no” or “yes.” What would our lives look like if we were that in-tune with the voice of the Spirit?
