God Calls All

Acts 2:31-41

I think sometimes I am a little like Peter in Acts 10 . . . and not in a good way. Here’s the very same person who preached the sermon at Pentecost in Acts 2. You know, the one where all kinds of people from all over the known world received the Holy Spirit, and 3,000 people were baptized that day. However, after all he saw with his own eyes, and passages he quoted about the promises of God being for everyone, he still doesn’t seem to truly understand.

God didn’t leave him in his ignorance. He provided a vision for Peter, where God spoke clearly, “Do not call anything impure that God has called clean” (Acts 10:15). Peter seemed to get the point, proclaiming in verse 35 that he realized God “accepts from every nation the one who fears him and does what is right.” While preaching those words, the Spirit falls on those who were listening, even though they were Gentiles (vv. 44-45).

I’m so glad God broke through to Peter. Maybe that means there’s hope for me, too.

It appears the scripture reading should be Acts 10:9-15.
