Freedom In The Spirit

1 Corinthians 6:12-20
In 1 Corinthians 6, Paul is trying to help the people of Corinth understand the fact that their bodies are the temple of the God, for within them dwells the Holy Spirit. As followers of Jesus, we belong to One much greater than ourselves. We’ve embraced a high and holy calling to be set apart, to be reserved for the work of redemption in ourselves and in our world.
What we do with our bodies matters because it affects us and everyone around us. It might be convenient to think there are no ripple effects in our choices, but that is simply not true. Everything we do impacts the work of the kingdom, for it is in each of us that the Spirit of God dwells.
We may be tempted to think that when we yield to God’s call and open our lives to Him, we are giving up our freedom. It is really just the opposite. When we submit our lives to our loving Creator God and treat our bodies as the Sacred Temple in which His Spirit dwells, that is when and how our truest freedom is found.
