Integrity Always

Titus 2:6-15

The majestic paintings on the ceilings of the Vatican’s St. Peter’s Basilica were created in the early 1500s by the Italian artist Michelangelo. Tradition tells us that the artist lay on his back on a high scaffold, working for countless hours just a few feet from the ceiling above him.

According to another story, the artist not only demonstrated great creativity, but also great character. Someone asked him, “Why be so detailed when your work will only be seen from far away? Who would ever know if you were not so meticulous?” The artist replied, “Who would know? I would.”

This concept is called integrity. In other words, it’s consistently doing the right thing, even if there are no witnesses.

This accurately describes how an immutable God deals with His children. In fact, Jeremiah described God as one “who does not change like shifting shadows” (Jeremiah 1:17b).

Indeed, if God asks us to display unchanging integrity, of course it’s because He does the same toward us. A reassuring concept in a changing world.
