PODCAST
Still By Faith
April 9th, 2023
Hebrews 11:39—12:3
The writer to the Hebrews spends an entire chapter commending the faith of Old Testament heroes. Yet sums up noting “none of them received what had been promised” (11:39b). All those years and “All these people were still living by faith when they died” (11:13a).
Where did we get the idea that faith is some kind of magic wand? We may think it is because we live on the A.D. side of history. We know Jesus “endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” (12:2). They did not. However, if we are honest, there is still much we do not know. That is where faith comes in.
What we know is Jesus came. He became the complete sacrifice for our sins. He was crucified, dead, and buried. On the third day He rose to life again. He ascended back into heaven and sits at the right hand of God, interceding on our behalf. We know He has promised to return and take us to be with Him forever. Until then, “fixing our eyes on Jesus,” we run with faith the race that is set before us (12:2a).
