He Has Risen!

Mark 16:1-8
Just after sunrise the cemetery was still. Footsteps crunched on the stone pathway. Three women carrying bundles approached a tomb, the one where Mary saw Jesus’ body placed Friday afternoon. They discussed a problem on the way: Who would roll the heavy stone away from the tomb door?
When they arrived the large stone door was already open! Had someone arrived before them? Had someone taken Jesus’ body away? It was all very confusing. They cautiously entered the open tomb and were startled to encounter a young man in a white robe. He spoke calmly, “Don’t be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.” Then he added, “But go, tell his disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.’” (16:6)
Fear would quickly be overcome by joy. Bundles were forgotten. They ran back to the city with the words, “He has risen,” trumpeting a fanfare in their hearts.
