Preparing For Jesus
March 1st, 2023
Mark 14:11-18
Much like the disciples in Mark 14, the people of God often find themselves asking, “How do we prepare for Jesus?” A perplexing statement at the end of these verses leave the reader on a cliffhanger: “One of you will betray me” (v. 18). In this group’s travels and even in their last meal together, Jesus walks alongside the man who would betray Him.
Preparations are made, a room is furnished, a meal is prepared, even though Jesus is aware of deep betrayal by His friend. Surely if Jesus had told His disciples earlier that one of them would betray Him, the preparations would have gone differently.
And yet, Jesus walks alongside Judas, and made sure the room was prepared for him, too. Maybe, for the people of God, to prepare well for Jesus means to welcome even the enemy. A life marked by radical grace, hospitality, love, and mercy for friends and enemies alike will be a life that prepares for Jesus well.
