Good Friends

2 Samuel 12:7-14
The prophet Nathan makes it clear to David that he has hurt Bathsheba, his murder of Uriah was completely unjustified, and he has shown an incredible lack of gratitude for all God has done for him. Nathan is a good friend. He shows David his need for repentance. Nathan lays out clearly how David’s sinful choices will affect his family for a long time to come. And, without Nathan, David might never have recognized the destructive path he was on.
One of the most important gifts God gives us when we follow Him is the community we find in His Church. We are surrounded by people who are also listening to the leading of the Holy Spirit. They are a community who will care for us, love us, and who will tell us the truth when we are having trouble seeing it. When we are digging ourselves into deep holes of sin, one way that God can show us a path out is through conversation with friends who love us enough to speak uncomfortable truths. Friends like Nathan are gifts from God.
