Total Commitment to God
January 22nd, 2023
Proverbs 16:1-9
A lady that I greatly admire, a saint of the church who has been a mentor and friend all my life, ends any commitment with the statement, “Lord willing”. She will say, “I will volunteer to help at that event, Lord willing!” Or she would say, “Let’s go out to lunch tomorrow, Lord willing.” I hear in her words a surrender of the heart, a commitment to the Lord’s will, and a willingness to exchange any plans that she makes to go where God would direct her.
Jeremiah 29:11 says, “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declares the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.’” We can trust the Lord to make our plans and be willing to abandon our will for the will of God.
When I hear my friend say, “Lord willing,” I am challenged to commit my day to the Lord’s will as well. May we commit not only our day, but our week, our year, and our entire lives to the will of the Lord.
