Live In God’s Light

1 John 2:1-11
The dark hurts. Let me explain. When I was an associate pastor, part of my responsibility was to turn off all the lights and lock all the doors after the Sunday night service. My routine would include beginning in a certain section and working my way toward the last door. One night I was walking down a dark hallway that I had walked many times before. That night, however, I walked right into the corner of a wall, getting a cut across my eyebrow. I can tell you that walking in the light is better.
John says, “God is light; in him there is no darkness at all” (1:5). As His followers, we are called to “walk in the light, as he is in the light” (v. 7). Walking in His light means following His Word and obeying the leading of the Holy Spirit—living Christlike. How do we know if we are walking in God’s light? John says the litmus test is our expression of Christlike love to others.
God calls us out of the darkness to walk in His light. As the light of His love shines on us, may our lives reflect His light to others.

Amen. I love every single mention of light in the Word of God. My favorite is Jesus’s reference to it in the sermon on the mount in Matthew 5:14-16. We are the light of the world.
