More Than Enough

Exodus 16:10-20
When one of my children was a baby, we had to learn to cut him off at mealtimes. If not, he would eat until he made himself sick simply from eating too much. Enough wasn’t enough to his young mind.
We all tend to do that. Since the garden of Eden, humanity has had an inkling that God is holding out on us. Why settle for enough when we can have an abundance? The myth of scarcity causes us to hoard resources and provisions for ourselves, ignoring the ways others lack those same things.
Exodus 6:18 tells us, “Everyone had gathered just as much as they needed.” Yet, verse 20a reads, “However, some of them paid no attention to Moses; they kept part of it until morning, but it was full of maggots and began to smell.”
God graciously gives us adequate provision despite our greed. Too often, we want to hoard our resources because we are worried about having enough to last. Instead of hoarding, let us steward God’s resources trusting His provision is adequate for us.
