Romans 12:1-8
The day began with seven men ready to flex their muscles. They placed the organ dolly under the heavy instrument. The procession rolled it out and into the sanctuary. The feat of hoisting it to the platform they performed with precision. In the fellowship hall, the VBS director stapled a water scene for a photo op. The secretary stuck her head in the door and asked the pastor to interview a family needing food. While this conversation progressed, the secretary assembled a sack of groceries. The pastor invited the child to VBS and the family to church. All in one morning, the one body of Jesus Christ was supporting a diversity of ministries.
This was Paul’s vision of the CIA (Church-in-action). He compared it to the physical body that functions in harmony without argument, envy, or debate of importance. Some parts of the body are seen, and some are unseen, but they all serve a purpose and work together. Paul declared that Christ’s Church should function the same way. God has gifted each person with a task to perform. If there is a missing link in the Body, there is a gap. Who will stand in the gap?
