Mercy Matters

1 Peter 1:1-9
Many years ago, we played a game called “Mercy!” We did not have television and video games to occupy our time, so we played games that stretched our creativeness. The game was played with two players who faced each other, joined hands, and tried to out squeeze the other. Eventually, one player would surrender and say, “Mercy!” This stopped the pain and released the out-squeezed player.
In some respects this game is like God’s mercy. His mercy is love and forgiveness offering a new life through Jesus Christ. It is through the will and mercy of God and our submission that this is possible. Through God’s mercy, He offers a living hope that time or circumstances cannot destroy. God’s mercy endures forever.
Because of God’s mercy, He has chosen, challenged, and consecrated believers to accept the responsibility to share God’s mercy. We live in a culture as temporary citizens. However, we have the responsibility to open ourselves to those with whom we disagree and offer them mercy.
