A Public Proclamation
June 22nd, 2022
1 Timothy 2:1-7
It was a hot afternoon, and the van was crowded to its capacity. Everyone agreed it was time to stop for a refreshment break. As the occupants piled out of the van, they were startled when the air was split with a loudspeaker announcement. The town was alerted to an invitation to come to worship.
Paul was not using a loudspeaker, but his proclamation was recorded for all future generations to hear. Paul, a herald, a witness, and a teacher was appointed to proclaim salvation for all. As a teacher, he communicated the purpose of the facts. He called for fervent prayer for everyone—from the hierarchy with their power to the homeless in their helplessness—to ensure peacefulness and God’s pleasure. Paul was dispelling the current thought of many gods and mediators by his declaration, “there is one God and one mediator” (v. 5). Jesus Christ, the Mediator, was sent by God as a ransom for all to bring them to himself.
God calls all believers to testify that Christ bridged the gap and salvation is available to all.
