Bold Assumptions
June 8th, 2022
2 Corinthians 4:1-10
Paul makes a bold assumption that carries with it the weight of expectation when he writes to us believers. You see, when Paul writes to followers of Jesus, he relentlessly assumes that we will be suffering.
Why would Paul do that?
Does the poor, imperiled, once-blinded, thrice-shipwrecked, starved and bloodied, snake-bit and beat down, habitual ex-convict brother Paul know something about treasure in weary vessels? Surely there could be no greater courier of the good news that we live in the death and resurrection of Jesus than Paul.
In other words, don’t be afraid to die. Also, don’t be afraid to suffer. Don’t be afraid of doing without, nor of being embarrassed, nor of ending up in a church without a great program for your kids, nor of giving too much, nor of not being fed, nor of having to listen to music you do not like. Instead, in your very countenance, carry around with you the secret of joy: that Jesus died so that all may live.
