God’s Light Never Diminishes

Proverbs 4:10-18
Nothing is more beautiful than a sunset, except maybe, a sunrise. When I was a summer youth pastor in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, my fiancé (now my wife) came down for a visit. Early one morning we set out in the dark and headed to the beach to watch the sun come up. I even set my camera on a tripod and, with my camera’s timer, we did a few selfies before selfies were a thing.
As the sun begins to peek on the horizon, the sky begins to gradually brighten with hues of pink, lavender, and orange. It’s not a full day yet, only the beginning of one. As the sun continues its climb, the day gets brighter and brighter until the sun begins to descend on the other side.
In all of his wisdom, Solomon is telling us that the same thing happens in our Christian lives. As we grow in Jesus, our inner light shines brighter and brighter. To the church at Philippi, Paul wrote: “he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:6b). How bright is your light?
