Psalm 31:1-8
The words of Psalm 31:5 are familiar. They were quoted centuries after they were put down by a man going through the most trying moment of His life. There was a purpose behind what He was going through. He knew the only way He would make it through what was happening would be to commit to God’s plan. He could have chosen another path, but Jesus was all in as He prepared to breathe His last.
Jesus was all in because He could identify with David. They both knew something of God. As we read Psalm 31 with Jesus in mind, we hear echoes of assurance, of confidence, of a God who has been faithful across the generations. Jesus didn’t have a baseless hope that God might come through. Jesus knew that God would “come quickly to [his] rescue” (Psalm 31:2), and that God was His “rock and [His] fortress” (v. 3).
Does your life proclaim the truths that David, Jesus, and others have echoed through the centuries? Many have joined with David and Jesus because they were confident that the one “who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6)
