Intentional

Matthew 5:27-37
One of my peeves as a parent is when I ask a child to do a task. If I ask the child to do a simple task and they affirm they will do it, I do not like finding that same task undone hours later. If you tell me you are going to do it, please do it. After a couple times of this pattern, I become less likely to believe that the child will do what he or she says they will. They have developed a habit of saying one thing, but doing (or not doing) another.
In church we can be filled with all sorts of good intentions. Like my children, we may intend to do what is asked of us (love God, love others), but we become distracted by life. Perhaps we aren’t distracted by the world, but by the good things of church—those activities that keep us busy. When we get so involved in the cogs of the institution, we must be careful that we don’t leave that which God has asked us to do undone. We have to be intentional about fully loving God and loving others.
