Proverbs 16:1-9
I love watching a baby learn to take his or her first steps. While loved ones stand by, smile, and applaud at those first movements forward, even falling cannot dampen the joy.
New believers are often like a baby as they learn to walk with Christ. Before too long, they are running ahead with a feeling of independence and freedom. Proverbs often directs us back to the basics of our faith. God has filled us with creativity, ideas, and visions. However, we tend to run ahead of God in how to reach our goals. He desires a holy partnership that requires our desire to follow and our trust that God will lead us step-by-step.
Our faith requires us to believe that God is faithful and can be trusted. Our experience tells us that as human beings we are prone to mistakes and wrong turns. The beauty of this proverb is that God provides us vision and helps us get to where we want to be—not by running, but by walking with God one step at a time.
