Detour Ahead

Genesis 37:12-22
Why did Joseph wear his beautiful coat to travel 100 miles across a desert wasteland to reach his brothers? For his older brothers it was a reminder of his favored position in the family. His youthful arrogance seems to dominate his decisions.
Joseph has seen glimpses of God’s plans for him through his dreams, but he is walking into sabotage. His brothers find an opportunity for some revenge and they take it. I am struck by Reuben who literally saves Joseph’s life. The blood would be on his hands, being the oldest brother.
Despite the murderous plot, God was working toward redemption and fulfillment of His plan. Has God given you a glimpse of His future for you? Then lean into the promise and allow God the opportunity to unfold it. God allows for some long and painful detours along the way to shape us into being servants worthy of His calling.
