Clinging To Hope
July 21st, 2021
Habakkuk 3:10-19
Welcome to Reflecting God.
We serve a holy God. His love is holy, His justice is holy, and even His anger is holy. God hates evil and the destruction it causes. He actively opposes idolatry and injustice. Through Christ and His body, the Church, all that is wrong in the world is being made right. In that sense, God does not differentiate between sin in our own camp or that of our enemies. Jesus is making all things new, starting with us, so that the world can be healed.
But the march of justice can often seem agonizingly slow. Confronting our own complicity in systemic evil can be painful. Poverty and suffering and war continue to plague the world. As we long for change, it can be easy to lose hope. In such times, God calls us to renew our faith through prophets like Habakkuk: “Yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign Lord is my strength” (Hab. 3:18-19).
