God Working In Us

Colossians 1:21-29
What am I here for? The apostle Paul would answer that question quickly and succinctly: I am here to present the Word of God (i.e., the gospel of Jesus Christ) fully. The NIV translation says, “to its fulness” (v. 25b). In this passage, Paul uses words like holy, fullness, mature.
As part of God’s plan for the good news to be shared, God taps Paul to be the evangel, a messenger of the gospel of Christ. The fullness of the good news points to full salvation found in Christ—the forgiveness of sins and growth into the full stature of Christ, what is commonly referred to as holiness. Paul’s goal is to communicate the gospel so effectively that these Christians in Colossae grow to reach the goal, or the target, of the Christian life: Christian maturity.
This is our work as Christ followers too, to be fully engaged with the good news of Jesus Christ—the forgiveness of sins and growth in holiness towards the full stature of Christ—and to help others find this fullness of the gospel in their own lives.
