Prestige or Rubbish

Deuteronomy 30:11-20
Prestige is king in our culture. We often judge others, and ourselves, by the status of our careers, income, neighborhood, or even our position in the church. Too often we equate status with value. The higher the status, the higher the value we give someone, and vice versa.
Paul addresses this in his letter to the church in Philippi. While Paul is regarded as one of the greatest and well-known men in scripture and was of the highest status in the culture of his day, he counted all his accomplishments as nothing. He considered it as rubbish, something so invaluable it could be tossed away.
Scripture reminds us that the greatest status we could ever have is being accepted into the kingdom of God through the blood of Jesus. Our lives have worth because of Jesus Christ and His love for us. That, unlike the various forms of status we try to achieve, isn’t something you can earn. It is ours by the grace of God.
Don’t get caught up in the ever-changing chase of attaining prestige. Our hope and identity are in Jesus.
