Questionable Questions

Luke 10:25-37
Teachers answer a lot of questions. Many are routine and repetitious; others are so far off in left field that one can’t help but wonder where the young minds come up with such inquiries.
As a teacher, Jesus fielded a lot of questions as well. I believe some of these inquiries were genuine. They sought knowledge and Jesus met their need. It’s probably safe to say that some of these questions were routine and repetitive (did anyone ever asked Jesus, “are we there yet?”). Scripture records that some people tried to use carefully woven inquiries in hopes (failed, of course) to confuse and test Jesus. For example, a lawyer once asked Jesus how to inherit eternal life. Jesus cleverly answered the lawyer’s question with a question about what the law said concerning the matter. The lawyer correctly stated that the law said one must love God and others, thus answering his own question.
Jesus helped the lawyer to realize that love was the conduit that paved the way to eternal life. God proved that love to us on the cross, and the empty grave was the conquering of death. God is love; God is life!
