Let No One Separate

Genesis 2:19-25
Recently I officiated a family wedding, the bride chose Genesis 2 to be read during the ceremony. The foundation of the marriage relationship is rooted in these verses. This verse is well-known and Jesus even cited this scripture during His ministry.
It is interesting that after God created the animal kingdom and the first human, Adam, God noticed that none of the animals could provide the kind of companionship that Adam needed. Though he was in the middle of paradise with all of God’s beautiful and perfect creation, he lacked true companionship. Marriage is a gift to be treated with care. It is a covenant of three: man, woman, and God. We live in a culture where too many people see marriage as a matter of convenience. If it gets too hard or the “feelings” go away, well, maybe it just wasn’t meant to be.
Jesus reminds us that we should have a higher view of marriage than culture does. God is the essential partner in making marriage work, and the glue that holds the marriage commitment together.
