It Makes Sense

Psalm 121:1-8
As human beings in a fallen world, we tend to push the limits between “right” and “wrong.” We want to see how close we can get to a line without crossing it. So, it is natural to see these “rules” as worthy of punishment if broken.
God’s very nature is not to punish but to redeem and reconcile. The commands He puts in place are there to keep us from the forces that can destroy our lives.
This is none truer than with the issue of adultery. Proverbs 6:32 says adultery “has no sense” because the adulterer “destroys himself.” Most of us know either personally or by association the truth of this piece of wisdom. Adultery destroys families, lives, futures, and even generations. The lies and deceit that accompany adultery can even push others away from a relationship with the Creator.
God commands fidelity not for our own sakes, but for God’s sake as well—through preserved marriages and stable families, others will be pointed toward Him. It makes sense!
