All Is Lost

Genesis 3:17-24
The fall of humanity is infamous. God created a perfect world, but humanity wanted more. Unlike Jesus who did not consider equality with God something to be grasped (Philippians 2:6), Adam and Eve reached out to grasp more than was their portion. If we’re honest, we find ourselves doing this very thing from time to time.
This grasp for more is called sin. The gospel is clear: there is an answer to this broken bent of ours, and His name is Jesus. Jesus, however, can only be the answer when we recognize our inability to save ourselves. We are more like Adam and Eve than most of us are willing to admit.
Both honesty (confessing the reality of our sin), and humility (remembering we, too, are in need of saving grace) are needed for this holiness journey. By faith let us remember that “if we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).
