Light Has Dawned

Isaiah 9:1-7
“There will be no more gloom for those who were in distress.” What an opening line from Isaiah 9:1! Distress is all too common these days. The amount of doom and gloom people are feeling is overwhelming. I’ve never pastored a more stressed out, anxious, and depressed people.
There is no apt description for the sensation of relief when that cloud of hopelessness is lifted. Isaiah’s phrase comes close: “you have shattered the yoke that burdens them” (v. 4). That is my deepest prayer! That the choking, heavy burdens my people carry will be shattered in the indescribable, unapproachable light of His dawning!
“When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, ‘I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life’” (John 8:12). We can walk in that bright illumination today. We do not have to wait for the cloud of our circumstances to move; His light transcends our current situation.
Jesus has already conquered sin and darkness. He is already reigning in light.
