Who Sends?
February 18th, 2020
Zechariah 4:8-14
Darius, the ruler of the Persian Empire at the time of Zechariah, was not necessarily motivated by good will for the people of Judah or a desire to do the will of God when he sent the exiles back home. His motivation was political in nature. By sending back the people who had been forced from their homes years and years ago, he could create goodwill for himself and help maintain more control over the distant lands he dominated.
Despite the fact that the powers in charge may or may not see it, God is still at work and using them to bring about His purposes. Zechariah was reminded by the angel of the Lord, that God is at work. The Israelites will know that it is God who has sent them.
The same can be true for us. Whether you feel as though you are in exile or have just returned home, God is the God who sends. Be faithful and trust in Him no matter where He has sent you today, or where He may be sending you tomorrow.
