Not By Power

Zechariah 4:1-7
Power and might are highly sought after in our world. Those with power in our world will often go to almost any length to maintain their power. Those who feel powerless sometimes turn to force to show that they are powerful and mighty. Humanity often judges using the measuring stick of power.
Zechariah is speaking to a small group of exiles who have returned home to Judah; he is speaking words of hope to them. It is not by power or might that they will succeed in their attempt to resettle in Judah, but by God’s Spirit. Our natural inclination is to flex our muscles to show might and overcome our problems. God wanted the Israelites to let Him demonstrate His power in their favor.
What are you facing today that makes you feel as if only a powerful force can get you through? Do you feel mighty or do you feel powerless? Either way, rest assured that God’s Spirit is all that you need as you face today. God, the provider, has promised to see you through.
