Standing In For Others
December 12th, 2019
Ezekiel 34:1-12
Margaret used to be strong. She could move a piano, lift two toddlers, or do just about anything needed to get the job done. But lately, she’s weak. She has to ask for help when getting things from her car. she doesn’t have the strength to lift above her head and has to sit down to hoist her 4-year-old granddaughter into her lap. Margaret doesn’t generally have to look far to find someone who is willing to use their strength on her behalf. Just about anyone in her circle is eager to jump in to use their muscles where hers have grown less capable.
I wonder what it would be like if we lived in such eager anticipation to stand in when other forms of weakness surface? I wonder what it would it be like to lend mental muscles when others are taxed and have nothing left to give? What it would be like if we stood in the gap when emotional, financial, and spiritual weakness seemed to be overcoming those in our circle?
To shepherd the flock with justice is to search for, bring back, bind up, and strengthen. Dear Lord Jesus, give us eyes to see and ears to hear.

Thanks for the correction, but you can’t find that without seeing the comments. I only saw it because I was pointing out the problem in a comment and I saw Ed’s. There have been so many problems lately that I am about to look for another source of devotions.
