Without Fear

Psalm 119:30-40
There is a view of God that is prominent in the world, and even in the church to a certain extent, that has done a lot of harm. Many people see God as an angry judge who is chasing us; waiting to punish us the first time we make a mistake. This has led many Christians to live in constant fear that we might break some rule we were not aware of and anger God.
Fortunately, Jesus has told us how to move through the world without fear. “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments” (Matt. 22:37b-40). When we take time to hear what the Holy Spirit has to say to us through Scripture, it is like God has opened a broad path in front of us. We can live in the freedom of God’s love.
