Be Active In God’s Word
May 11th, 2019
James 1:19-27
President of the United States, Thomas Jefferson, was a devoted follower of Jesus. However, he didn’t agree with all of Scripture. In fact, he took a penknife and cut out the sections of the Bible that showed Jesus’ supernatural miracles. In Jefferson’s bible, there is no account of the beginning and the end of the Gospel story. There is no virgin birth or the appearance of angels. The resurrection is not even mentioned. It was easier for Jefferson to cut out these pages, then to believe by faith that what Jesus did was true. Jefferson created his own version of the Bible: the Jefferson Bible.
James tells us to be active in God’s Word. How well do we do what the Bible says? We may not cut pages out of our bibles, but many of us pick and choose what passages we will follow, and which ones we will ignore. In our own way, do we create our own version of the Bible? Let’s follow the Word of God actively and experience the life that Jesus intends for us to live.
