Forgive As God Forgave
May 7th, 2019
Ephesians 4:25—5:2
I will never forget the words that were said to me that day. My friend stabbed me in the back, and the memory of it still stings. What comes to mind when you read the word “forgiveness”? Do you recall heartaches, wounds, and conflict from your past? These memories maybe still fresh because we have been hurt so deeply.
It can seem impossible to forgive the people who have hurt us so deeply. The apostle Paul, however, gives us one critical reason why we need to forgive those who have hurt us. We forgive others because God forgave us (Eph. 4:32).
Think about how much God has forgiven you, and it will cause you to be more forgiving to those who have hurt you. God has forgiven us completely, wiping the slate clean of all our sin and wrongdoing. When we understand that Jesus went to the cross for our forgiveness, it makes it difficult to hold a grudge against those who have hurt us.
No matter what anyone does to you, you’ll never have to forgive any other person more than God has already forgiven you. Do you have any past hurts you need to let go of?
