The Dash
February 9th, 2019
Acts 5:41—6:7
They only chose seven men who were simple people of faith. Their credentials were simple, too: “full of the Spirit and wisdom” (Acts 6:3b). Among the seven men was Stephen, the first martyr. His life along with the other six leaders were to make a difference in the lives of the people they served. They gave their lives to follow the Spirit’s leading. How we respond to the mission of God is a daily choice. May the Holy Spirit guide us and use us for His glory.
A few years ago, our family made funeral arrangements for my father. At the cemetery my family scoped out burial plot options. (My mother wanted to check out the neighborhood!) Grave markers come in a variety of shapes and sizes but every marker has one thing in common: the DASH between the day of birth and the day of death. That dash represents the amount of time people spend on the planet. How are you doing with your dash? Your age and your profession do not matter. What really matters is what is in your heart. Seek to be filled with the Holy Spirit.
