Luke 7:11-17

Her tears were real and raw. Not only did the widow lose her son to death, she was also without a husband. As her heart broke for her dead child, surely the lack of certainty for her future added to her grief. Hope was likely hard to come by for this grieving mother.

Jesus was surrounded by his disciples—both those closest to him (the 12) and a crowd that followed him. The widow was surrounded by her neighbors. As these two group come in contact with each other, Jesus was moved with compassion. He raised the widows son from death to life. Everyone witnessed this miracle.

Jesus revealed who he is to the people of God. The Centurion was a surprise of faith in the expanding kingdom of God. In Luke 7, we read about the developing faith of the people God had chosen hundreds of years before.

Thankfully God’s love for us doesn’t stop even when we have doubts or fears. God cares for us, even the lowly widows who have nothing left. Lean into God’s love today.
