Black and White and Gray
January 7th, 2019
Luke 5:33—6:5
I have a friend whose daughter is a good student. She enjoys learning and makes her schoolwork look like it takes very little effort. Math is one of the subjects this little girl does well. One evening, however, she was struggling. After trying and trying, she finally broke down in a fit, “that’s not how it’s supposed to look!” She knew the answer, but the teacher wanted the students to work through the problem in a different way. This little girl was working in black and white; the teacher asked her to see it in gray.
The Pharisees were much like this student. They had the black and white answers to questions about God. Then the Teacher came along and muddied their concepts with God’s truth. Jesus didn’t follow the Pharisees’ rules of who God is and what God does. Just like my friend’s daughter, they finally became so aggravated they threw a fit, “that’s not how it’s supposed to look!”.
Is there something in your life that is making you throw a fit? God’s ways are not our ways and sometimes seeing God’s ways takes time. Allow God to clear your vision for his picture.
