What Do You See?

Do you remember as a child when you were certain there was something scary standing along the wall in your room? Flip on the lights and voila it was simply the shadow of your stuffed animals. We see a shadow and try to reconcile it with what we know about our world. Unless the light is turned on, we see dimly, making judgments with our limited knowledge.
The Pharisees where much like a child trying to discern shapes in the night. They had a vague idea of what the world was about, who God was, and how they fit into the picture. They had Scripture. They had rules upon rules to make sure they never took a wrong step. The problem was, they were seeing dimly.
Jesus made no sense to the Pharisees. He didn’t fit the shape of who God is. Their problem wasn’t that they were in the dark discerning shapes. The Pharisees’ predicament was they refused to allow Jesus to flip on the light so they could see.
What is God shining light on in your life? Don’t close your eyes: look and lean into his love.
