Don’t Get Sidelined

Luke 4:31-44
Want to be distracted? Look no further than your phone! Distractions are made for moving us away from what we are suppose to do.
Throughout the course of his ministry, Jesus performed many miracles: casting out demons, feeding the hungry, and healing the broken. It was surely an amazing thing to hear about, see, or experience!
And yet, Jesus was clear in verse 43 of Luke 4: I’m here to proclaim the good news. Doing good for all those hurting around him could have sidelined Jesus from his mission. When a sports player is sidelined, she is removed from the center of activity. The sidelines aren’t a place of desolation: you can heal an injury or support your teammates. The sidelines, however, don’t allow you to actively participate in the game.
Jesus remained focused on his goal: proclaim the good news to the people and fulfill the covenant (his death and resurrection). He helped people along the way but he didn’t get sidetracked. Are you on the sidelines or in the game?
