Where Do You Look?
December 25th, 2018
Luke 2:36-52
I recently observed a mom with her young child at the local grocery store. She was talking on her phone and strolling through the aisles, occasionally picking up an item to fill her basket. Her young child, however, was all over the place. Running down one aisle and up another, he skidded to a halt before he climbed around the produce boxes. In the midst of her mundane, everyday tasks, this mother was unaware of what her child was doing.
Mary and Joseph were traveling back home after a festival in Jerusalem. However, Jesus stayed behind and “they were unaware of it” (v. 43). His parents carried on with life. They didn’t check in on Jesus until the next day.
Our lives can become like this young mother and child. The pressures of daily living dull our senses of who God is and what God is doing in our world. While we are busy juggling jobs, children or grandchildren, making dinner, paying taxes, and taking out the trash, God is moving. If we assume we know what God is doing, while failing to take moments to stop and really discern, we may miss it altogether. Have you taken a moment today? Be intentional, stop and look.
