Born To Prepare The Way

Luke 1:67-80
We all have hopes and dreams for our children. We watch as their gifts and graces become evident. We guide and provide for them as they begin to develop interests. We encourage them to trust the Lord and teach them that God will show them their path. Our highest hope is that they will learn to obediently pursue the ways God opens up for them.
Zechariah wasn’t quick to believe what the angel told him about his future son, but when he was convinced, he was fully committed. He realized that the long-awaited Messiah was coming soon. He understood that his own son would prepare the way; he would preach that our merciful God would bring salvation to his people and would shine in their darkness.
Isn’t this like the hope that we have for all of our children? Wouldn’t we like to see them engaged in preparing the way for God in the lives of their friends and family? As we guide them in the ways of God, let us pray that they understand their life’s greatest purpose is to share the way with others.
