1 Thessalonians 4:1-12
First Thessalonians 4 makes it abundantly clear that God cares about us being His holy people in every aspect of our lives. One who is holy doesn’t raise his or her hands in praise and speak of God’s goodness in church on Sunday morning and then go out and live a self-centered life the rest of the week.
The homeless woman once told me that she had seen many Christians who were hypocrites, or “phony Christians.” I challenged her with this thought: something or someone can only be phony if there is a genuine person or item that it is faking. You really can be that genuine, holy follower of Jesus. God has called you to be sanctified, or set aside for His sacred use. Rather than living an impure life, you can live a life of holiness. My prayer for you is that your daily life may win the respect of outsiders. When others dare to say that “the church is full of hypocrites,” may you be the one that can show them by your life you are the real thing.
