Exodus 32:1-14

Taking action in response to impatience often brings about disastrous results. Moses had been up on Mount Sinai receiving instructions from the LORD for quite awhile by that point (Ex. 24:18). The people, desperate to have a physical, reassuring symbol of their God, turn to Aaron and lay on the pressure to “do something.” What came about as a result probably seems ridiculous to us: they built the golden calf, sacrificed to God, and proceeded to engage in behavior that might well have made the pagans around them blush. If not for Moses’ intercession on their behalf, ultimate destruction could have resulted.

Are you in a season in life where you are being forced to wait for God to move? Impatience, agitation, and even fear can easily sway your thoughts and actions if you allow them. But God sent Moses back to the people, and He will move in your situation, as well. Rather than taking action you may later deeply regret, it may be best in this season to “be still and know that [He is] God” (Ps. 46:10).
