God Is Faithful

1 Cor. 10:1-13
Nature trails often consist of paths that have been marked out by previous hikers; small markers and signs that will aid the next set of people on the trail. Paul’s letter to the Corinthians uses the story of the Israelite exodus as “trail markers” for believers. We are reminded of their unity (vv. 1-4) as well as their missteps (vv. 5-10). These stories, Paul contends, “were written down as warnings for us.” Their stories are our stories. We too have good moments and bad moments. We too make choices that have disastrous consequences. We too spend far too much time complaining.
The example of the Israelites should serve as a warning marker on the trail of faithfulness. There is no circumstance or situation that we will face that has not been faced before. There is no new temptation. The same faithful God that brought people through it before will faithfully bring us through if we trust Him.
What temptation are you facing today? Where can you choose to heed the “trail markers” and lean on a faithful God?
