Trust God: Stand Firm
September 10th, 2018
Exodus 14:1-14
The Israelites are stuck. Egypt is barreling down on them as they are camped near the sea with nowhere to go. You can almost hear the panic and anger in their voice: “What have you done to us by bringing us out of Egypt?” With seemingly nowhere to go, fear took over the camp. The dust of the chariots rising in the distance caused anxiety to rise within the Israelite heart. It is in this moment, Moses speaks, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today.”
When life seems to be rushing at us with no escape in sight, we too can react much like the Israelites. Retreat feels like the safest option rather than the risk of faith.
Moses’ call to “stand firm” displays a profound trust in God. A heart that fully trusts in God sees the dust rise in the distance, but places its hope in a God bigger than the circumstances that threaten.
What are you facing today that makes you feel like your back is up against a wall? What steps can you take to stand firm and trust God for deliverance in the face of fear?
