Consequences to Sin
August 14th, 2018
Lamentations 1:10-17
Who is weeping? Jeremiah, the author of Lamentations is the obvious answer perhaps. However, I cannot help but think that Jeremiah is echoing the sorrow of God himself. Though he was told at the beginning of his ministry that the people would not listen, I am sure he carried some hope in his heart that they might. In Lamentations 1, the results of Judah’s resistance to Jeremiah’s pleas are clear. I wonder if Jeremiah was a bit shocked and stunned that God had actually allowed Jerusalem to be destroyed.
In this lament he is pouring out his sorrow before God as he witnesses what little is left of the city. The consequences of sin can leave us shellshocked reaching out desperately for someone to blame—some may even blame God. But the truth is that sin is a result of our own choices and destroys often with far-reaching effects. Are you on a road that is leading to sinful choices? God is waiting for you to reach out in repentance.
